Salvation

Salvation

Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned…(Romans 5:12)

Salvation is all about God’s amazing love for you and me, it is God’s plan to rescue us from the pain that sin and death brings into our lives. Through Christ’s death on the cross we can have forgiveness for our sins in the past, forgiveness for our sin in the present, and hope founded in God’s promises for eternal life.

One of the questions people always ask is why do I need to be saved? Most people who ask this question do so why the thought in mind that they are pretty good people. They may even have done some really good stuff in their lives, such as, feeding to poor, being kind to others, and they may even have made personal sacrifices for others. The problem with this line of thought is that we could ever do something to merit God’s forgiveness, they want to believe that salvation and forgiveness is something that can be earned. Here is the issue most of us base our personal goodness on what the world says is good. We tend to think we are good based on what we think others think or based on an image that we project of who we are to the people around us. The problem is two-fold, first that there is a higher standard than the world’s standard and second that our actions and our thoughts are known completely by God who perceives everything. The Apostle Paul wrote these words, “for all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Every one of us have done and thought things that fall short of God’s glorious standard. It might be a simple as a lie. You may have taken something that was not yours or you may have had thoughts that you should not have…even if you didn’t act on the thought God’s Word says that it is sin. God’s Word also tells us that the wages of our sin is death (Romans 6:23). Because of our sin we deserve death, separation from God in this life, and eternal separation from God in the life to come. The Bible calls eternal separation from God, Hell, a place of eternal torment. God doesn’t send people to Hell, people go because of their own free choice. So the bad news is that we are all sinners, we are lost, and desperately need a Savior.

The Good News is that God loves you more than you will ever know! Jesus put it this way, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believed in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”(John 3:16) God has a plan and His plan is to rescue out of your sin, and to give you new life. God’s plan is simple, step one is to repent. Repent means to confess you sin and to turn away from that sin to embrace the God who loves you. Second, believe in or trust Jesus as your Savior. This second step is often the most difficult because it requires us to surrender control of our lives to God. God’s Word say, “If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, we shall be saved.” (Romans 10:9) Step three, God wants you to find a Bible believing church so that you can grow in knowledge and serve him, so you can share the good news with others.

So here are the 3 steps:

  1. Repent tell God you are sorry for all the time you sinned.

  2. Trust Jesus and believe that what He did on the Cross paid for your sin, ask Him to be your savior.

  3. Be baptized and Join a Bible believing church in order to grow and serve.
